Virtual Get-Togethers: 3 Ways to Set Up for Your Party

by Vincent Zhang 01/06/2025

Hosting a virtual party doesn’t have to be complicated. As with in-person parties, you’ll still need to set a few basics, but they aren’t much different from throwing an in-person get-together.

Here are 3 ways to make sure your next virtual bash goes off without a hitch.

Find the Best Time

All functions need a time, no matter the location. The best way to solidify a time for your virtual party is to plan early. Ask if people would be interested via your preferred communication method. Once you have enough participants, start working on the schedule. Figure out what time restraints people may have and what responsibilities they may have to take care of before and after the party. This will help you pinpoint a time and date that works for everyone.

Test Your Tech

Testing your technology is paramount to throwing a successful virtual shindig. Make sure that you meet the minimum requirements for your preferred platform. Most of the more common video conferencing apps and programs have their requirements on the face page of their service.

Once you know the minimum requirements, make sure that your technology is fully updated on its software before trying your tech. After you’ve updated, give it a go. Video conference with someone to make sure the quality of your technology is up to par. Finally, send out instructions in the invitation or a separate communication for your guests to test their own technology. Make sure everyone responds with their results so you can figure out any contingencies you may need.

Have a Backup Plan

If you need a backup plan, brainstorm with the group. You could come up with a secondary type of entertainment for the evening, such as a watch party through a streaming service, or find an alternative date for your party. Regardless of the issue, you always want to make sure you have some sort of secondary plan in place.

Hosting a virtual party doesn’t have to be daunting. In fact, a lot of virtual parties are put on without any issues, no matter the technological skill level of the attendees. Besides, hosting a virtual party means most folks get to enjoy quality time with loved ones from the comfort of their home - and in pajama pants.
